Driver, cyclist injured in armoured truck crash |

![]() Men assigned to the Guardsman Armoured truck stand security at the crash site yesterday. The truck reportedly collided with a Honda motor car while on the bridge in Spanish Town. A cyclist and the driver of the vehicle were injured. - Rasbert Turner Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer A collision between a Guardsman Armoured truck and a Honda motor car yesterday was enough to cause onlookers to gather on the scene of the accident in the hope of securing some of the money they thought the truck might have been carrying. "Lawd Jesus, why the door dem no fly open and the whole heap a money just drop out. A dat woulda help mi wid di pickney dem tings," a burly woman said to a gathering. The Spanish Town police said about 1:35 p.m., the Ford Armoured Truck registered to Guardsman was travelling towards Spanish Town. Upon reaching the bridge near the Spanish Town Hospital, it collided with a Honda motor car going in, the opposite direction. A pedal cyclist who was going in the car's direction was pinned against the rail of the bridge. The driver of the truck and the cyclist were taken to hospital with broken limbs. Armoured section intact However, the burly woman was not alone in her wish for the truck to be open to expose its contents. Other bystanders were puzzled as to how the truck was damaged but the armoured section remained intact. "Dis is a real sign, look how di truck mash up and di part wid di money still solid, no sah dis no good fi mi," another bystander said, while observing the wreckage under the watchful eyes of security personnel. Reports are the driver of the truck and the pedal cyclist were rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were admitted. The accident resulted in the diversion of traffic for almost an hour. The matter is being investigated by the St Catherine North Traffic Department.
