United States (US) head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said his team will be taking serious aim at the Reggae Boyz as they seek to record their first victory in a World Cup Qualifier over the Jamaicans inside the National Stadium when both teams clash in their Group A assignment later today, at the National Stadium, starting at 7 p.m.

The Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore-coached Reggae Boyz will also be chasing a historic win over the Americans, who they are yet to beat at the senior level.

Jamaica and the US have both amassed four points from two games so far, but the latter hold a superior goal difference and this match, to be followed by a return game on the 11th, could hold the key to which team tops the group.

The teams' last meeting came in the 2011 Gold Cup, with the US winning 2-0. However, there have been a number of close matchups between the teams with five of the Americans' nine victories coming by just one goal.

The US will enter the encounter high on confidence, following there historic 1-0 victory over rivals Mexico at the Azteca in their last outing.

"We understand the history that the US have never won a World Cup Qualifier in Jamaica, and that is what we would like to do," said Klinsmann. "We are coming here to give them a real game and we want to win this game."

"We also understand that Jamaica is very eager to win the game," he added. "I mean it's a special year for Jamaica on their 50th anniversary of their Independence and we have the highest respect for Theodore Whitmore's team, but we have a goal here and we have an idea how we are going to approach things."

The Americans will be without national team regulars Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley for the game, both of whom have injuries.

''It's going to be difficult,'' US forward Clint Dempsey said. ''The fans are going to be really up for the game, therefore the players are going to be really up for the game. So it's going to be a challenge."

On the other hand, the Reggae Boyz coach, who led his team to a 2-0, victory over CONCACAF rivals El Salvador in their last outing, said his team is confident but that they are anticipating a tough game from the Americans.

"I think we are expecting a tough game and I think that we have to play well and we have to play organised and we have to keep the ball and take our chances," Whitmore said. "We are pretty confident and ready to go."

"We are hard to beat here and we want to maintain that," he underlined.
