Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A man who told the court that he had no knowledge of the ammunition or the ganja the police claimed he had was granted $70,000 bail with surety. He is Antonio Jowrey of Terminal Road in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine. When the matter came up before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, defence attorney Courtney Maxwell told the court that his client is an innocent man who does fishing for a living. The lawyer said on the day in question, his client was searched and nothing was found. He said he was then taken by the police to a house owned by a relative, who is incarcerated. "Your Honour, my client was told to turn his back, he was then told to look around and the ammunition was shown to him," Maxwell said. He told the court his client is willing to vindicate himself and is not a flight risk. Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece then granted bail. Allegations, are that on Wednesday, August 29, about 11 a.m., police personnel accosted two men in Old Harbour Bay. One ran and the accused was searched and three ounces of ganja found in his possession. He was taken to his home and during a search four 9mm rounds of ammunition was found. He was subsequently charged with illegal possession of ammunition and possession of ganja. |
