The weapon includes a 37-millimetre grenade launcher. - Norman Grindley The police in the Kingston Western Division are celebrating yet another successful removal of an illegal high-powered weapon off the streets of Kingston. Information reaching THE STAR is that the weapon, a powerful Colt AR-15 A2 assault rifle equipped with a 37mm grenade launcher was seized during a police operation in Denham Town yesterday. The weapon was reportedly found under a cellar at 39 Wellington Street in Denham Town during an intelligence- driven operation. THE STAR was told that the operation was prompted by an upsurge in gang-related activities in the Kingston Western Division. A senior officer at the Denham Town Police Station said: "A series of operation occurred between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and turned up the rifle as well as a ballistic helmet ... No arrests were made in connection with the seizure." Yesterday's find follows on the heels of the seizure of a Grizzly Big Boar 50-calibre rifle in June also in the same division. - A.W.
