Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
A female driver breathed a sigh of relief yesterday when she was rescued from the Rio Cobre by fishermen moments after her car plunged into the river. The car ended up in the river after a huge boulder crashed into the vehicle as it made its way through the Bog Walk gorge. The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. while the woman was driving from Bog Walk towards Spanish Town. It is reported that she was travelling in a Suzuki motor car when upon reaching about 400 metres east of the Sligoville entrance, a tyre on her vehicle was hit by the boulder causing her to lose control and plunge into the murky waters. A group of men who were fishing saw the accident, dived into the river and pulled the woman from the submerged car. "We were on the banks fishing when we saw the large stone hit the front of the car. It spun out of control and drop in the river, so we just dive in and saved her," David Morris told THE STAR. When THE STAR spoke with the wet, shocked and visibly shaken female she was obviously at a loss for words. "I was driving when a large stone hit the vehicle and I lost control," the woman said. The wrecked car was taken to the nearby Bog Walk Police Station for storage. |
