55-y-o stabs man in front of police

A 55-year-old woman, who blatantly told the court that she stabbed a man in front of the police, was taken into custody when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Elizabeth Grant, a higgler from Kingston 11.

Grant is to be sentenced on October 17, and Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly Williams ordered a probation report.

"Your Honour, I had to fight like I was in a movie because the police were there watching the allegations. He (complainant) was running down my son and I stabbed him right in front of the police," she said.

Allegations are that on July 6, about 10:15 a.m., the complainant and the accused woman's son got into a dispute nearby a restaurant on East Queen Street, Kingston.

The court heard that the complainant and the accused woman's son got into a fight and the complainant attempted to use a piece of board to hit the accused woman's son. However, it is alleged that a traffic police officer came on to the scene and the complainant dropped the board.

It is alleged that the accused who saw what was taking place then ran up to the complainant and stabbed him in his neck.

The complainant was reportedly taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was treated and released and the accused was subsequently charged.
