A Leyland truck laden with sewage overturned along the Cudjoe Hill main road in St Catherine on Monday crashing into a house, and injuring three of the occupants of the vehicle. The accident occurred at a section of the road called 'Copper Turn'. The truck plunged several metres off the road and was stopped by the house. As the news of the accident spread, residents converged and expressed shock. They also demanded that a retaining wall be built to prevent such an accident again. "I have being traversing this road for over 30 years and there have being numerous accidents. There needs to be a wall here to minimise the effect," said one driver, Barrington Mighton. His views were echoed by others who said there have been numerous accidents at that section of the road. "When I returned home and saw how close the truck drop to my house, I am still counting my blessing. But, I don't know what to tell the owner of the house," said Joseph Royal, a resident of a house close by. Reports are that about 7 p.m. on Monday the truck was travelling on the road in the direction of Kitson Town when the accident occurred. When THE STAR visited the scene the rear wheels of the truck was resting on the top of the concrete house while the mangled cab was close by. The roof of the truck and other parts were strewn about the place. It was revealed to THE STAR that the owner of the house works and lives abroad and the house was unoccupied. |
