Rae Tay awaits her big break |
|||||
Rae Tay - Contributed While most upcoming artistes wait on that big break before deciding to do any form of charity work, up-and-coming artiste Rae Tay has been doing the opposite. The 28-year-old hails from the small community of Porus in Manchester and has dedicated as much time to building the community as she has to building her career. The artiste says the name Rae Tay was given to her by legendary artiste Beres Hammond. "Rae Tay is a slang used in Jamaica to make a sentence short but it was given to me because of my down-to-earth, street personality," she said. Rae Tae is now the founder of the Porus Awards and Miss Ultimate Diva Pageant, which sees young women from all backgrounds vying for the crown. Outstanding community members are also awarded for their contribution to community building. If that's not enough she now has the 'Porus Games'. This is similar to the Olympics, but is held yearly. It was held for the first time this year and was a major success with the communities in and around Porus. The artiste, who given name is Heather Smith, told THE STAR that she did her first professional recording in 2005 after being introduced to artiste Bushman. Rae Tay's latest singles include Africa, Gold Mine and Last Day on Earth. In five years time, Rae Tay says he expects to at least be nominated for a Grammy. "Five years time I see myself being at least nominated for a Grammy. I see myself starting a music foundation for youths. I want to be not only a well established artiste but also as a well established promoter and businesswoman. In the next five years the name Rae Tay will not only be a name but also a brand," she told THE STAR. She is currently gearing up for the release of her new video and album. "I just shot a video for a new collab with Lee'Tal titled Playing with my Heart. I am also getting ready to shoot the video for the song titled Gold Mine next weekend. I'm working on my first album produced by Baby G, which is scheduled to be released this December. The first song off the album is titled Like a Star, so look out for that," she said.
