Commish refutes prosecutor's claim

The Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington has refuted claim apparently made in court yesterday that a statement requested from him in regards to the case involving three high-profile figures was outstanding.

In a release from the Constabulary Communication Network, the commissioner said he was aware of comments made in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday by Dirk Harrison, deputy director of public prosecutions, concerning a statement.

Acording to reports, Harrison told the court that a case file was complete except for a statement from the commissioner of police which was requested, but was yet to be received.

The commissioner of police said he wanted to make it absolutely clear that up to this point neither the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions nor the investigator in this matter had requested a statement from him.

In the release, Commissioner Ellington also stated that he did not know nor had any interest in knowing who the individual investigator in this matter is. According to him, his only interest where that is concerned, is that a fair and professional investigation is carried out.
