Fake lawyer arrested

Investigation by the St Catherine South police has resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly tricked a woman into thinking he was a lawyer and fleeced her of money.

The 55-year-old man was picked up by the police on Monday following a report from the woman.

THE STAR was informed that in early June, the woman who was going through matrimonial problems approached the suspect. She was reportedly convinced that for $50,000 an hour he could get her divorce papers completed within a short time. The money was subsequently paid over to the suspect.

After receiving a document marked Decree of Absolute, an inquiry made at the Supreme Court. It was revealed that it was not granted in her name, but had reportedly been doctored by the suspect.

Investigations further revealed that the suspect was not an attorney-at-Law.

The man, who is of a Linstead address in St Catherine, was placed in custody by Detective Constable Ricardo Johnson.
