Club mates benefit from Bolt effect - Spearmon |
|||||
Wallace Spearmon American sprinter Wallace Spearmon believes the positive effect of training with the world's fastest man Usain Bolt plays a major role in his Racers Track Club teammates doing well. The Jamaicans swept the men's 200 sprint at the London Olympic Games, with Bolt finishing in top spot, stopping the clock at 19.32, his teammate Yohan Blake second in 19.44 and another member of the club Warren Weir third in a time of 19.84. Spearmon fell just outside the medals, fourth with a season-best time of 19.90. Bolt also finished just ahead of Blake in both the 100m and 200m events. Spearmon, who has bronze medals in the 200m event at both the 2007 and 2009 World Championships, believes the exploits of the double world record holder, pushes those training with him to higher levels. "Bolt's been running fast for a long time. I guess when you have a great training partner, the best one ever, I guess I feel like (Blake and Weir) are reaping the benefits of what Bolt's doing and it's making them better because you have a great sprinter in each event to train with," Spearmon told Flotrack.org. "You see what he's doing, you see how far you have to go and just get to watch his every move. So they're training hard, he's training hard and it's working for everyone." The 27-year-old Spearmon boasts a personal best of 19.65 and currently trains in Arlington with coach Monte Stratton.
