Tasteful vibes at Reggae Wine Festival

Davina Henry, Staff Reporter

Trivento, Moscato, Ackee Wine and Sex Pearl, were just some of the wines on display at the second staging of the International Reggae Wine Festival.

The vast variety of wines coupled with some of reggae music's finest artistes thrilled the patrons who had turned out for the festival.

Given complimentary wine glasses upon entrance, patrons moved from booth to booth sampling what the sponsors had to offer.

As with last year, it was the 'Sex Pearl' wine which piqued the interest of the patrons. Patrons flocked the booth asking questions on the benefits of drinking the roots wine.

With a fashion show kicking off the event, patrons, with their glasses in hand sipped on Trivento, Moscato and other wines whilst Staysie's Boutique and Pablo Palair showcased their wares.

After a lengthy intermission, rising superstar Protege took to the stage to screams and applause. Protege thrilled the crowd with songs such as No Lipstick, 7 Year Itch, Take Control, Take Control and Who Dem a Programme.

"Let me see all the hands of the ladies who have been in love before," Protege inquired of the audience. With almost every hand going up, Protege then replied, "Mine is the red wine talking enuh," to the delight of the audience.

Informing The STAR that he hasn't performed in Montego Bay frequently, Protege said he enjoyed the show.

"It was a good vibes, every time I get to perform beside the ocean is a joy. We give thanks to MoBay and it was a fun show," Protege told the Star.

patrons begging

Reggae crooner Leroy Sibbles was up next and he did not disappoint. With hits such as Rock Steady Party, Lovein the Morning, I'm Gonna Make You Sweat and Oh Happy Day, Sibbles had patrons begging for more when he departed the stage.

Coming on board for the first time, Tahnida Nunez, sponsorship manager at Digicel stated that they were proud to be on board this year.

"This is the second city, we do a lot of stuff in Kingston and we love every opportunity we get to go outside of Kingston to touch our customers in other parishes and Montego Bay is a big, big priority for us," Nunez told The STAR.

Being the only performer back for the second staging, Tessane Chin delivered a superb set.

Delivering hits after hits from her catalogue, Tessane had the audience rocking and singing along to songs such as Messenger, Call Fi Mi Cure, Hideaway and a rendition of Damian Marley's Affairs of the Heart, which she dedicated to her husband.

"Last year I did an acoustic set and this year I did a live set and I was just so happy to be back with new material, new vibe, new look, it was very fun," she told The STAR.

In the wee hours of the morning, George Nooks took to the stage. Drawing from his extensive catalogue, Nooks belted out hits such as Hero, Lean On Me, God is Standing By and Tribal War.

The ultimate wine and music experience created an atmosphere for wine lovers to sample a wide array of wine within a beautiful location.
