Andrew Waugh, assistant coach at "These games are just warm-up encounters in preparation for the Red Stripe Premier League, which begins the first week in September," Waugh told Star Sports, following a recent match at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. " It gives us a chance to gauge where our players are, and I think we are where we want to be at this time," he said. "Generally, the players played creditably and our technical, physical and tactical plays came out in the game just as we did in practice." Waugh said that the team wasn't paying much attention to goalscoring, but more to their overall standard of play. "At this time we weren't focusing on scoring goals, but, there were good signs as we created numerous chances, and we scored one in the first game, and another one in the second, so we have something to work on," he said. Assistant coach of the St Catherine All Stars B, who suffered a 1-0 loss, Dane Brown, said a lack of training worked against his team. "We never really prepared for this game, we only had a few training sessions," he said "I thought the players applied themselves fairly well, considering we were playing against Portmore, the defending Premier League champs, our next game is against a KSAFA While Portmore used the game as warm-up for the Premier League, the St Catherine Football Association used the match as a tune-up for their big clash against a KSAFA All Stars squad in a two-match series. Meanwhile, Portmore United B, through second-half strikes from Steven Williams, defeated a St Catherine All Stars B team, made up of Division Two and Division One players, 1-0. The Portmore United A verses St Catherine All Stars A, made up of Major and Super League players, ended 1-1. Alanzo Adlam scored from the penalty spot for Portmore, while Frazsiers prolific striker Kemar Beckford equalised for the All Stars team. Portmore won last year's RSPL by a point over Boy's Town, despite once holding a huge lead over their rival. |
