Conroy Wilson Better known for his place at the helm of the most popular Jamaican performing arts group ASHE, Conroy Wilson is a multifaceted performing artiste who is making headway as the pop genre mentor and coach on Digicel Stars. Wilson has amassed accolades as the executive and creative director of the ASHE Performing Arts Company. Wilson also holds a Masters in Communication for Social and Behavioural Change from the University of the West Indies. Wilson attests to being a prolific songwriter, musical arranger, and international creative consultant with various organisations. He also says that his background in music, including playing the piano from a young age, is integral to the performing process. In his new role on Digicel Stars, Wilson says: "A big part of it for me, and it is something that excites me very much, is to be able to help someone to develop a very strong sense of self, after which the talent just naturally oozes from them and people are attracted to that talent." develop holistic performers He is determined to develop holistic performers out of the talents that he will be working with on the show. Plans, he says, include working on developing not just their talent, but their stage presence, confidence, and all the other ignored facets of a great performer and musician. He admitted that he was eager to join the Digicel Stars team because his passion and life's calling is in the area of training, developing talent, and mentorship. So it was only fitting that he took on the task to be the pop mentor and coach. Wilson has an entire regime planned for his four protégés, and believes it will be interesting to see what they bring to the table and how they will adapt to the training. He says that the contestants have to be willing to learn and be open and receptive to his training and expertise, and coachable. As a jab at the other mentors that are in the competition, Conroy proudly states: "Every single week, you can expect a full performance from the talent in the pop category. I'm a winner and I create nothing but winners in their own right. It will be no surprise to me when the winner is announced and it is one of the mentees in the pop category." See Conroy Wilson's protégés this and every Sunday on Digicel Stars. The show airs on TVJ at 8 p.m.. It repeats on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays at 11 a.m., and Thursdays at 11 p.m. |
