VCB chases history... Reigning Olympic champ eyes third straight title

Campbell-Brown

LONDON, England:

Defending Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown is ready to put the disappointment of losing twice at the Jamaican Olympic trials behind her, as she chases history, hopeful of becoming the first woman to win three consecutive 200m titles at the showpiece event.

The sprinter also admitted to feeling tired at the trials and pointed to that as a possible reason behind her sluggish performances, which saw her finish second in the 100m and third in the 200m.

the flesh is weak

"The mind is always willing but sometimes the flesh is weak; maybe I was a little tired at trials, but the good thing is that I made the team in both the 100m and the 200m," said Campbell-Brown.

"I'm in London and I am happy to be here in my fourth Olympic Games and I'm excited that I am getting the opportunity to run both events here."

Campbell-Brown is looking to win her first 100m gold medal at the Olympic Games and follow up 200m wins in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008) with a win here, but her form has been cast in doubt after she suffered defeats in Kingston.

However, Campbell-Brown is not perturbed by the defeats, and remains confident in the work that she has done all season long.

"I have trained hard this season and not because I have had a few races that didn't go too well; I'm not going to let that dent my confidence and allow that to let me feel weak or anything, I have put in the work and all I have to do is keep focused and do my best," said Campbell-Brown, who has won 14 medals at the Olympics and IAAF World Championships levels.

very confident

"I have had a few not-so-good races but I will not dwell on those or look on them as something negative. I learned from those races and I am going into my competition here very confident. I am going to go out there to give it my best and only God knows what the result will be, but I will do my absolute best," said Campbell-Brown.

The Jamaican is looking to create Olympic history with a 200m win here, but is well aware that it will not come easily.

"I have put in all the work and I know it will be difficult for me to get the victory here in the 200m, but anything can happen and I just have to keep my mental focus and make sure that I get my races right."
