Man killed by police One man was fatally shot by the police yesterday morning at the Llandilo Housing Scheme in Savanna-La-Mar. Dead is 29-year-old Joseph Williams, otherwise called 'Joe Dog', of a Llandilo Housing Scheme address. The Constabulary Communication Network reports that one Glock pistol with one cartridge was seized. The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). Cops seize firearms and ammunition The Elletson Road police on Saturday seized two firearms and several rounds of ammunition during an operation on Bygrave Avenue, Mountain View, Kingston. Information received from the Elletson Road police is that between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m., lawmen searched several premises in the area. During the exercise, the firearms, one Colt M16 A1 rifle and one AK-47 rifle along with twenty-four 5.56 cartridges were found in bushes. The police continue to work assiduously to rid our streets of illegal firearms. Illegal gun found in St Thomas Another illegal firearm has been removed from our streets as the police yesterday seized a shotgun in Seaforth, St Thomas. Reports from the Seaforth police are that about 12:30 p.m., they were on patrol in the area when several explosions were heard. The police acted quickly and accosted a man, who was suspected to have fired the shots. A subsequent search resulted in one shotgun, with its serial number erased, and three 12-gauge cartridges being seized. The man was taken into custody. His identity, however, is being withheld pending further investigations. Car crash claims two lives Two persons are now dead and another has been hospitalised after the motor vehicle they were travelling in plunged into the Wag Water River at 2 a.m. in St Mary yesterday. Dead are 39-yr-old Sharlene Beckford and 25-yr-old Okenio Spence from a Waterford, St Catherine, address. Reports are that the three were travelling towards Port Maria from Gray's Inn in a white Toyota motor car. It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a left hand corner, collided with a metal bridge and plunged into the Wag Water River. The three were rescued by residents in the area and were rushed to the Annotto Bay Hospital where two were pronounced dead. The third person is said to be in a serious but stable condition. The police are now investigating the incident. |
