|
A man charged with carnal abuse had his case sent to trial on Friday when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. The accused Kenneth Gilmore pleaded not guilty to the charges. Allegations are that he sexually assaulted his daughter. Resident Magistrate (RM) Frazer asked Gilmore if he had a lawyer, he replied, "Your Honour, a me a di breadwinner and I can no longer afford a lawyer." The RM countered by saying, "Not because you are the breadwinner, that is no reason for you to pluck the chicken." The courtroom erupted in laughter. His plight for bail was flatly rejected as the RM revealed that an offence was committed during his first bail. Gilmore was remanded until August 16 when the trial into the matter was set to begin. RM Frazer issued a warning to the complainant who said she was willing to drop the case. The RM said, "Young lady, allow me to do my job, and by extension keep you safe." It was also ruled that the mother of the child appears before the court on the next date. |
