Reasonable Press is ready to roll |

Jimmie, STAR Writer REASONABLE PRESS is a reasonable bet with Aaron Chatrie for tomorrow's 1200-metre seventh race, considering the form the Philip Feanny-trained colt has shown in six starts this season. A winner last time out, REASONABLE PRESS showed his versatility by nabbing CLASSY PROSPECT at the wire in a decent 1:39.0 for a mile two Wednesdays ago. Never mind that CLASSY PROSPECT failed to frank the form when returning last Saturday and was beaten into a disappointing sixth place behind SIR D. Whereas CLASSY PROSPECT's fitness has been spotty, REASONABLE PRESS' consistency has been spot on. Facing familiar rivals JET SETTER and RIGHT MARKER, REASONABLE PRESS should use his strong mid-race pace to overpower the leaders in the stretch run on his return to open allowance where he was beaten by BLAST THEM AWAY on March 10. United States-bred REASONABLE PRESS comes in at 53.0 kilos, lighter than locals JET SETTER and RED FLAG, further tilting the scale in his favour. JET SETTER comes in at 55.0 kilos, sparingly trained as usual, a bad combination to tackle REASONABLE PRESS who has been quite busy at exercise and hasn't missed a month of racing since returning off a five-month lay-up in February. RED FLAG, at 57.0 kilos, slapped with a 12lb penalty after beating JET SETTER on June 13, is vastly improved but allowing REASONABLE PRESS nine pounds in a sprint should overwhelm the Owen Sharpe-trained gelding. RIGHT MARKER and TREND SETTER sit level with REASONABLE PRESS at 53.0 kilos and could be his main threats. Both are working well and RIGHT MARKER had finished ahead of REASONABLE PRESS when both were beaten by CLASSIC BEAU at a mile in March. In fact, RIGHT MARKER was heavier, carrying 55.0 kilos to REASONABLE PRESS' 51.0 that afternoon and was two lengths clear of him in second place behind CLASSIC BEAU. TREND SETTER was also in that race and was a length behind REASONABLE PRESS in fifth place, seven pounds heavier than the American-bred. However, that March 10 run was REASONABLE PRESS's second race back from a lay-up. He had scored an easy victory over SWEET TRAIL about a month earlier and was running up in class in a strong pace at a mile. He prompted the pace to the top of the lane and flattened out afterwards against horses who were pretty active at the backend of 2011 while he was laid-up. Now at full fitness, Feanny's runner should set the record straight against the local-breds. |
