Labourer charged with assault

There was suppressed laughter in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday when it was outlined that a man was hit because he took away his uncle's girlfriend from his house.

Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is Everald McBean, 56-year-old labourer, of Riversdale, St Catherine.

When the case was mentioned before Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece, the accused pleaded not guilty.

The allegations are that the incident took place on July 6. The court heard that the complainant took away his uncle's babymother with whom he had been living.

It was further revealed that on the day in question, the complainant went to pick up a child who had been left at McBean's house the night before.

When the complainant and the woman returned to the house for the child an argument developed.

McBean is alleged to have picked up the block and flung it, hitting him on the shoulder and fracturing it.

A report was lodged and the accused was arrested and charged. He is to reappear on August 14 to answer to the charge.
