Stabbing causes ... 52 STITCHES TO WOMAN'S FACE

A woman who stabbed another in her face repeatedly causing her to receive 52 stitches was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Donna Pownall of a Corporate Area address.

The complainant told the court that she was injured in a surprise attack by Pownall, which caused her to receive 52 stitches to her face.

Furthermore, the complainant explained that the defendant inflicted the wounds to her face with two bottles that she had in her possession.

pounced on her

According to her, at the time of the incident she was walking with her daughter when the defendant pounced on her and started cutting her as she looked behind her.

She also alleged that the defendant cut her daughter in the attack.

After listening to the complainant's recount of the incident, Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey said that, "as long as she is alive and looks in the mirror, she will remember you," in comment directed at the defendant.

When quizzed by the RM why she should not be sent to prison for her action, the defendant said her daughter recently sat the CSEC examinations, and she did not want to be uprooted from her life.

Moreover, the child's father is already absent so she does not want both parents to be missing from her daughter's life.
