![]() Usain Bolt World's fastest man Usain Bolt has confirmed that he is recovering from an injury setback but is confident that he will be fit enough to defend his titles when the London Olympic Games get under way this week.
In back-to-back losses to training partner Yohan Blake at Jamaica Olympic Trials three weeks ago, the double Olympic champion looked out of sorts especially over his favoured 200m distance.
"I got checked out and it's (injury) all right, I am happy with where it's at," Bolt said in his first interview since arriving in Birmingham.
While the specific nature of his current injury is unknown the sprint star did see his 2010 season cut short after a lower back injury. On that occasion, Bolt lost to American champion Tyson Gay, who will be one of his main threats, in addition to Blake when the blue-riband event runs off next week. The sprinter, the undisputed star of the Beijing Olympics four years ago, however, remains confident as he hopes to claim another three medals.
"I am definitely confident that I can do what I did (in Beijing)," Bolt said.
"I'm training hard and looking forward to the start of the Olympics."
Bolt set new world records in the 100m (9.69) and 200m (19.30) before teaming up with the Jamaican 4x100m team to race to 37.10 - also a world record, at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. A year later at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, the Jamaican bettered his own marks, setting 9.58 in the 100m before carving out a 19.19 run in the 200m.
He was disqualified for a false start in the 100m at last year's IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea, but redeemed himself with a 19.40 run to retain his 200m gold medal before helping to lower the 4x100m world mark to 37.04. |
