Woman flees arrest under vehicle

Crystal Harrison, Staff Reporter

It was an unusual occurrence in Cross Roads on Monday after a woman who was reportedly caught videotaping some cops making an arrest ran under a parked police service vehicle to dodge the lawmen.

THE STAR understands that sometime after 6 p.m., a large crowd gathered near the Empire Wholesale and Retail outlet on Retirement Road.

It is reported that the group of police officers were in the process of clearing the vicinity of several higglers, who were selling in the roadway, when the woman started the videotaping.

It is alleged that one of the higglers was being beaten by the cops.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the skilful petite woman was spotted by the cops and given a command to desist from the videotaping and remove from the area.

However, it is said that the woman refused.

Further reports are that a large crowd which gathered on the scene was highly entertained as the cops had great difficulty in accosting the woman.

THE STAR understands that the woman who dodged the cops several times was at one point accosted by two of the lawmen, however, she managed to escape and ran under a parked police pickup van.

It is said that the woman finally gave in to the cops when she was convinced by some other officers, who came on the scene as back-up.

in trouble

"All now I can't believe one woman give di police dem so much trouble. The police had to call for back-up because she decided that she nah mek the police arrest her. She was so adamant that she was not going with the police that she ran under the police van. She don't believe that she did anything wrong,"a customer in the shopping plaza told THE STAR.

Another eye witness reasoned that, "di woman nuh do anything wrong, me never know say that there is a law against videotaping tings inna di public. Di police dem tell her to stop, but because she nuh stop dem a try fi arrest her."

She was eventually taken to the nearby Cross Roads police station where she was slapped with several charges, including resisting arrest and obstructing the police.

A police source told us that the reason why the woman was pursued was because the cops were doing their job and she was given strict instructions to remove herself from the area and she refused.
