Twenty-eight students who successfully completed their preparatory-level education were sent off to high school in fine style during Glowell Preparatory's school-leaving exercise at the Portmore New Testament Church in Bayside, Portmore, St Catherine, recently.

Guest speaker for the function was Milton Samuda, an attorney-at-law by profession and president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce.

Samuda gave the graduates a charge and used his achievements and his children's successes as examples as what hard work can bring. Principal of the school, Gloria Jack, commended the students and teachers for maintaining the high academic standards of the institution.

Two students were given special mention for their achievements in the GSAT exams. Christopher Nicholas scored a 97 per cent average in all subject areas to top the boys' section and the overall title, while Kris-Ann Irons was the best among the girls with a 93 per cent average.

Apart from the awards, the dancers and the sign-language group entertained a receptive audience which included the school board chairman, Superintendent Balwin Johnson, and legal counsel Barbara Thompson, a former member of the school board and a good friend of Samuda.
