Two Jamaicans who were found to be living illegally in Belize are to be deported.

Twenty-seven-year-old Romando Michael Richards, and 31-year-old Rayon Anthony Spence, both students and electricians from Kingston, appeared in Magistrate's Court to answer to charges of disembarking a vessel without the authority of an immigration officer.

pleaded guilty

Both men pleaded guilty and were both fined BZ$1,000 (J$43,150) each plus BZ$5 (J$215.75) cost of court or six months in prison.

A removal order was also issued for them to be deported back to Jamaica.

According to a report in the Guardian, the two Jamaican nationals left Kingston on June 3 for the United States, but did not make it there and instead sought refuge in Belize.

Police got a tip that they were living on Electric Avenue since June 7. They were detained and handed over to immigration personnel.
