SHELDON WILLIAMS, STAFF REPORTER
A senior citizen landlord who says he was brutally attacked and beaten unconscious by his tenants had to be revived after being drenched with a pail of water. "I got 30-odd stitches to my left ear and left eye," the old man told our news team. He is also suffering from a suspected broken shoulder and is awaiting the results of an X-ray to determine further medical treatment. In addition, he claims that he is a recipient of death threats from the troublesome tenants. The elderly man, who owns a house in an upscale St Andrew community which he rents to several tenants at a time, says the incident happened after he went to a couple that resides on the premises to collect outstanding rent that backlogs six months. Information reaching THE STAR indicates that the alleged attack transpired last Friday about 5 p.m when the landlord went to his tenants to collect $91,000 owing in rent plus other expenses. "I went to them last Friday for the rent because they promised that they would pay me, and they gave me $2,500 and I didn't take it," the exasperated retiree told our news team. He says his refusal to accept the minimal funds he was offered was the preamble for the attack. In describing his ordeal, the elderly man said that the couple, who he rented a section of his home, ganged him which resulted in him being wounded. "She hit me with a two by four and when I fell on the ground, her boyfriend kept on kicking me," the senior citizen alleges. In addition, he claims that the woman who was the instigator of the attack advised her boyfriend to go for a machete to chop him but the swift response of the premises' watchman prevented this. unconscious "I happened to hear the noise and looked through the window and saw two people on him so I intervened," the watchman informed THE STAR. The watchman then confessed that he saw the landlord on the ground unconscious, and he had to throw water on him to revive him. The St Andrew North police were summoned and soon assisted the landlord to seek medical treatment. The couple who had been issued with an eviction notice prior to the alleged attack were also issued with a warning by the police. The matter is expected to be mentioned in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in the coming days. |
