Bridgmohan on the double

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (CMC):

Jamaican jockey Shaun Bridgmohan rode a double on Sunday's final day at Churchill Downs to climax the spring meet at the celebrated southern United States racetrack.

Bridgmohan finished the 38-day season with 47 wins, well adrift of champion Corey Lanerie who wrapped up his first ever Churchill Downs riding title with 71 wins.

Triple Kentucky Derby winner Calvin Borel finished back in third on 33 wins.

Riding on Sunday's 10-race card, Bridgmohan took race four with Sky Captain before closing out the day's action aboard favourite Dreams Cut Short.

Over six furlongs in race four, Bridgmohan tracked closely from third with Sky Captain as Yo Blue and Poison Apple disputed the lead.

Bridgmohan swept the two-year-old chestnut colt to the front entering the stretch and widened to win by 10-1/2 lengths.

In US$57,300 race 10 over 1-1/8th miles, Bridgmohan again produced a convincing ride to steer Dreams Cut Short to victory over the three-year-olds and upward.

Dreams Cut Short struggled for racing room along the rails in the early stages and was angled to the outside with three furlongs to run as Empire on Fire led Down-town Ghost and Entrainment.

Bridgmohan bid with the three-year-old gelding in the stretch, got to the front and held on to reach the wire 1-3/4 lengths clear.
