Constable accused of discarding cocaine pellets for suspect in hospital |

A district constable who is accused of throwing away nine cocaine pellets from an accused man, who was under police guard at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), was offered $400,000 bail in the court yesterday. He is Orville Brooks who was recently charged with fraudulent conversion, and attempting to pervert the course of justice. As a condition of his bail, he is to surrender is travel documents and report to the Old Harbour police every day. Brooks who appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, is to return on August 27 for trial. It is alleged that an accused man was under police guard at the KPH under the suspicion that he had swallowed cocaine. Further allegations are that later that said day, the man passed out several cocaine pellets, however, Brooks threw nine of them out the window while his colleagues were asleep. The court heard that Brooks did this in return for jewellery. It was also revealed in court that while the accused man's case was pending, he gave statements to the cops at the Anti-Corruption Branch implicating Brooks. The court heard that further investigations done by the cops led them to Brooks' home where the jewellery was recovered. The pellets that were reportedly thrown through the window at the KPH were also recovered.
