Family claims ... twin brothers on wrong charges

Crystal Harrison, Staff Reporter

A family member of twin bothers Carl and Carlos is adamant that the police and the justice system have been mixing up the identities of both men.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the twin brothers look alike, talk alike and are slightly mentally challenged.

Both men were recently charged separately with assault and sexual assault.

THE STAR understands that the family of the men believe that the brothers were arrested and placed before the courts in the wrong names and under the wrong charge.

Steve McFarlene, brother of the accused brothers, explained to THE STAR earlier this week that the identity mix-up started when one of the twin brothers was arrested for an offence.

"A report was made to the police dat one of dem assault a woman, but I get to understand that the woman herself is confused because she did go back and tell di police dat it was the wrong brother she had pointed out, and they have just brushed that aside," McFarlene reasoned.

He further said that the men have been co-operating with the police and the court, however, because of the mix-up, both men have been answering to each other's name and charge.

McFarlene, who sees himself as the voice of his brothers is adamant that they are willing to be penalised for any wrongdoing but due to the fact that they cannot properly explain themselves, the confusion continues.

One of the twins was recently fined $5,000 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in the assault case, however, the sexual assault matter is pending.

Meanwhile, when THE STAR made contact with an official at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, he didn't buy the family's cry of confusion and refused to comment on the matter.

However, a police officer from the St Andrew Central Police Division said he was familiar with the matter how but he couldn't comment on it.
