Raging a good Prospect

Fitzroy Glispie - File

RAGING PROSPECT's big fourth-place finish in the Lotto Classic should be good enough for the Fitzroy Glispie-trained colt to land tomorrow's eighth race at 1820 metres.

The chestnut colt faces the Anthony Nunes pair of AQUAMOTO and SIRMANDI, who had finished a nose ahead of him at a mile when both were beaten by United States-bred JAH LOVE on March 28.

Though Nunes' pair could try to tag team RAGING PROSPECT, Glispie's runner has come on a ton since beaten by JAH LOVE.

In his next race, April 25, RAGING PROSPECT caused anxious moments at odds of 9-1 when he lost by only a length and a quarter to AVENTURA at 1820 metres.

Both AVENTURA and RAGING PROSPECT returned to frank the form in the Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup on May 19. AVENTURA passed the post first, beating 2000 Guineas runner-up ALL CORRECT by a head, but had his number taken down for hindering RAGING PROSPECT a half furlong out.

After having to be switched by Omar Walker at a crucial stage, RAGING PROSPECT was rallying at the end and finished two lengths off AVENTURA and ALL CORRECT.

A small-framed colt, the taxing 19 furlongs and 25 yards from those two races, in addition to the March 28 mile race, must have had some effect on RAGING PROSPECT, as he finished down the track in the Jamaica Derby.

However, Glispie has freshened him nicely for tomorrow's event, giving him an easy two furlongs in 26.3 a week after the derby and a moderate 1:03.0 for five furlongs Monday morning.

The tongue tie, in which he had placed fourth in the Lotto Classic, has been removed for tomorrow's race but he had run equally well without the equipment when finishing second to AVENTURA at 1820 metres in his previous race.

Nunes' pair, AQUAMOTO and SIRMANDI, have been working well as usual. However, AQUAMOTO continues to sparkle at exercise only to fizzle on raceday. SIRMANDI, on the other hand, always puts in an honest effort but was well beaten by RAGING PROSPECT on April 25 and in the Lotto Classic after nosing him out for second at a mile back in March.

AQUAMOTO has some speed and could try setting a strong pace to lull RAGING PROSPECT into a speed duel for SIRMANDI to pounce.

It should be noted that stable rider Dick Cardenas is aboard AQUA-MOTO who soundly beat SIRMANDI at exercise Sunday morning, indicating the champion jockey's preference.

AQUAMOTO, however, continues to flounder in his races and his stablemate, though slower, could be RAGING PROSPECT's danger.
