Bails extended for bun thieves

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

The bails of two men charged with larceny of 66 spice buns were extended when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

They are Artwel Davis and Philip Roland, both labourers of Thompson Pen in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

When the case was mentioned, there were comical moments that had persons in stitches. "I want the buns to be presented as exhibits and I want National buns and no other brand. In fact, my clients have been charged for stealing from themselves," attorney-at-law Linton Walters, representing the men, said.

It was revealed to the court that a justice of the peace had signed off on the buns and they were returned to the supermarket.

The lawyer said the buns the men were charged for stealing were not part of those been credited to the complainant.

The allegation before the court are that on June 1, both men went to Jimmy's Supermarket in Spanish Town to deliver buns. The court was told that both accused stole the buns valued at $3,000.

The police were summoned and both were charged with simple larceny.

The matter will again be mentioned on August 15.
