The designer recently started his own record label called Half A Moon Records and has released a rhythm called Buss Off.

According to Moonie, he always wanted to dabble into production, however, it wasn't the right time until now.

"I have a lot of rhythms but this is the first one I am releasing because I think that it is the right time now. I am getting crazy support for Half A Moon Records on the radio stations already; a lot of artistes have been contacting me to be a part of the project," he said.

Artistes who have recorded on the Buss Off rhythm include Zamunda, Khago, Shaun Storm, Bugle and Stylish featuring Vybz Kartel.

Top artistes from the disbanded Portmore Empire, Tommy Lee and Popcaan are however, missing from the current compilation, but Moonie says both artistes will record their songs in coming weeks.

"Popcaan and Tommy Lee were on tour so they didn't get to record, but as soon as they get back they will record. They told me that they are going to put something real hot that shot because this is my first rhythm. We are working with the Gaza artistes because we are still family," he said.

musical segregation

Moonie also said that he would not facilitate musical segregation through his productions, adding that he did not want to limit himself.

"I am looking to record a wide range of artistes because I wouldn't want to limit myself. With all I am going through I just think it's the best time to do some positive music. Moonie is not a one dimensional person, I am an entrepreneur, so I am definitely going to be doing other things," he said.

The designer turned producer also says that his designing business is making a slow recovery after his recent run in with the law.

"The designing thing is picking up now, it had slowed down because of what I went through lately. Quite a few artistes have linked up saying dem want some suits, but it nuh really reach back to the level that it was. I have a few designs that will be worn at Sumfest but I am not in the frame of mind to put out a collection right now," Moonie said.

Dancehall reggae artiste Zamunda will be wearing one of Moonie's designs at Sumfest and he said that Moonie is a credible designer.

"Moonie thing shot man. Pree di Techa jacket dem, always look good and neat, suh mi a pree one a Moonie design fi guh Sumfest, neat and clean rasta sey," Zamunda said.

elite brand

As it relates to putting out a collection in the future, Moonie disclosed that he has plans of creating an elite brand of clothing called Calvin Haye designs.

"The next line will be called Calvin Haye and will be an elite brand, everybody know about Calvin Haye so I am going to make it into a real brand and turn the negative into positive. People have been wondering what's up with me but as soon as I release a new line they will know," he said.

Moonie was also arrested in 2011 along with Vybz Kartel and fellow Portmore Empire member Shaun Storm. However, despite having a court date set for June 27, he believes things are going in his favour.

"I have a court appearance this month but things are looking good on my side because everybody know that I am a fashion designer, people don't know me as no other person," he concluded.

Moonie recently opened a clothing store in Half-Way Tree called Half A Moon Boutique and can be contacted at 790-9914.
