Jamaica's fourth-ranked Sunshine Girls will take on a spunky South Africa in today's opening match of their three-Test Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Supreme Ventures Sunshine Series at the National Indoor Sports Centre starting at 7 p.m.

The Sunshine Girls team will be captained by veteran player Nadine Bryan. Along with Bryan, the Jamaican squad also includes four members of a team, which outclassed the sixth-ranked South Africans 72-45 in their last meeting at the World Netball Championships (WNC) in Singapore last July.

The players are sharp shooters Jhaniele Fowler and Ann-Kay Griffiths, defender Malysha Kelly and wing defence Kimone Tulloch.

The rest of the Jamaican squad for the series will include members of the Under-21 squad along with players who ply their trade in the JNA Divisional Leagues.

Oberon Pitterson-Nattie, coach of the Sunshine Girls, said the team has worked very hard in training in their preparations for a tough series.

"We are ready as we can be," said Pitterson-Nattie.

"I think for them is to just go out there and execute and if they do that, and make the necessary adjustments when needed, then they we will be successful," Pitterson-Nattie said.

"We are looking for the win and there is no doubt about that. I am also looking for them to give a good account of them themselves," she said.

Pitterson-Nattie also revealed that the girls recently completed a gruelling one-week training camp, which was aimed at preparing them for tough situations they may encounter during the series.

On the other hand, Proteas coach Elize Kotze said the team will be banking on an experienced roster, which features eight players who participated at the WNC last year, to lead them to victory.

"We would definitely love to improve on our performance from the World Championships and our loss at the FastNet Championships against Jamaica," said Kotze.
