Reggae Boyz assistant coach, Alfredo Monteso, hinted that all might not be well within the camp after he along with some members of the team returned to the island last night following the Reggae Boyz goalless draw with Antigua and Barbuda in Tuesday night's CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) semi-final encounter. "They (the team members) are comfortable in a certain way, I think that things are missing in the preparation and the federation is putting a lot of effort into that," Monteso disclosed after touching down at the Norman Manley International Airport. "It was not easy to get games, because we didn't have the FIFA dates. But every time we have a game now we are going to have to think about the game, we are going to get and try to put these guys in camp and give them the supplements, nutrition and everything that is necessary and this will cost," he added. Monteso believes a professional approach has to be taken with the players, especially given the fact that they are rarely together as a unit. "We don't have the players in our hands and we have to be very creative when we have them," Monteso said. "We have to make them feel comfortable, create an environment around them that they are going to feel comfortable, with good games that we are going to give to them and camps that we need to put together," he added. The Brazilian's major concern revolves around the team's level of preparedness leading up to important assignments, but he is cognisant that this will require serious financial investment. "I think that our team has to be getting a better approach next time," Monteso said. "I think we need better preparation; it is a time for us to get together and give some more things for this team. We need resources to prepare ourselves, as to prepare any team to the World Cup, you need to get resources." He added: "JFF needs some more private investors to sponsor the team, as we had to qualify to 1998. If we get this kind of support it will be much easy for us to prepare the team." The result against Antigua and Barbuda has left Jamaica level on points (four) with the United States after two sets of games in semi-final round. The other two members of group A, Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala, have a point each. "I don't think it is a bad result, as we did our homework; we got the three points in Jamaica and we went away and we got the point," Monteso said. "I don't think it will be easy for any team to go to Antigua (and Barbuda) and beat them," he added. |
