André Williams, STAR Writer

The St Thomas police are trying to ascertain the whereabouts of a 21-year-old labourer from John's Town, St Thomas, who has been accused of stabbing the father of his girlfriend on Sunday, causing him to suffer serious injuries to the head.

The police say the incident happened after the youngster and the 22-year-old girl, who are believed to be an item, were involved in a tussle at her home.

Persons who realised what was taking place are said to have alerted the father who is a known taxi operator in the area.

According to an eyewitness, when the father arrived on the scene he started defending his daughter but the boy, whose name is being withheld by investigators, is accused of using a sharp instrument to inflict several wounds to him.

Several residents who were on the scene are said to have tried to apprehend the juvenile but he evaded their attempts and escaped in a nearby field.

THE STAR was reliably informed that the father managed to drive to the Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.

A source at the hospital told our news team, "I was on shift and saw when he arrived ... he was bleeding from his head and the blood ran down covering his face ... The wounds looked pretty serious to me but he was able to receive attention in short order."

St Thomas police confirmed that the attack was reported, and they are doing their investigation into the matter at this time.
