Nineteen-year-old Yanique Frazer has received the nod as the first of 12 finalists in the Smooth Magazine-sponsored Miss Best Booty competition.

The competition kicked off on Friday at the weekly event Booty Fridays, held at the Rajmaville Sky Terrace in Portmore. Frazer will vie for $250,000 and a six-page spread in Smooth Magazine at the grand finale to be held at Hedonism II in Negril on July 28.

The selection wasn't without controversy, as the crowd favourite, a fluffy, 25-year-old Alison Bennett, was initially declared the winner, but after a decision by the competition's organisers, Yanique Frazer was announced the winner via the event's Facebook page.

It read: 'The organizers of Miss Best Booty would like to announce that, after review and much consideration, Alison Bennett, the crowd favourite and originally announced finalist, has been unseated for Yanique Frazer.'

"A balance has to be struck between entertaining patrons and maintaining the high international standards of the models published in Smooth. A judging panel will be installed in the next staging of the event to strike such a balance," one of the promoters told The STAR.

Booty Fridays, in its third week, got off to a gradual start at 11:25 p.m. Disc jocks Kidd and Maani had early control of the turntables. Later, DJ Kaniva and DJ Dilemma of Shockwave took turns hammering out fast-paced beats to a half-full dance floor. Tracks like Wifey Walk Out, Wine and Gyal A Bubble blared from the speakers much to the delight of the female patrons, while Vybz Kartel's Back to Life and Masicka's Baddest represented for the males.

At 12:45 a.m., ZJ Ice turned things up a notch ahead of the start of the Best Booty competition. The females backed it up to Vybz Kartel's Dumpa Truck, kept going at Konshens' Stop Sign and Popcaan's When We Party, before declaring A Yah Suh Nice.

The competition eventually got under way at 2:30 a.m., with bikini-clad beauties led by a fluffy Alison Bennett who instantly attracted screams and howls from the audience. Other females were not to be outdone, as 23-year-old Trudy Ann Powell strutted her stuff with an occasional flick of her double-pierced tongue stirring testosterone levels in the crowd, while the more reserved redhead Yanique Frazer was an eye grabber in a neat frilly laced black and white speckled bikini.

Juggling continued from Deadline Sound's DJ Laron as the Smooth Magazine hopefuls prepared for the next segment.

At 3:10 a.m., the competition continued with the wet t-shirt and buff zone. While Powell and Frazer received overwhelming applause for their wet tees, Alison Bennett stole the show with her more than generous 'buff zone'.

The highly anticipated mud wrestling segment, however, saw a long delay with the contestants a little hesitant to enter the mud pit, a large blue chocolate-mix filled portable pool.

At 3:40 a.m., a handful of patrons trickled out of the venue after a long wait for the competition to resume. After some prodding by the promoter, the contestants eventually entered the pit to produce a disappointing mud wrestling display.

Despite a few glitches, Booty Fridays proved it had the right formula but only needs to perfect it to grab the attention of the hard-to-please Portmore crowd.

Booty Fridays continues with the Best Booty competition every Friday at Rajmaville, Portmore, until July 27, with the grand finale on July 28 at Hedonism II in Negril.
