Sadeke Brooks, Staff Reporter
Going into the busy party season, there are quite a few summer songs that selectors and disc jocks believe are doing well. Among the top songs for ZJ Ice are I-Octane's We Love The Vibes and Popcaan's Summer Wave. He says there are also nice songs from Bugle and Blak Ryno, while Cashflow Records' Sun Tan rhythm is also doing well. However, he noted that it is still early days so more songs are likely to pop up on the radar. Irie FM's DJ Smurf also likes the I-Octane and Popcaan summer songs, but he believes Vybz Kartel's Summer Time part 2 and Elephant Man's Dash Wata are also contending to be top songs for the season. "You have others but dem nuh really a shell the place like dem one deh. So far, everybody is trying to do songs and brand it as a summer song, but I think some of them start too late," he told THE STAR. "You can't do a song now and expect it fi inna di juggling fi di summer. Some a dem alrite, some a dem nuh alrite, some a dem lame." As for Elephant Man's Dash Wata, he said it has the potential to do well if given more rotation on the radio. But unlike last year where Vybz Kartel's Summer Time and Popcaan's Raving were the summer hits, he said he is yet to see an ultimate summer song. "Di song dem weh ago shell the summer are the songs weh hot already," he said. According to selector Razz from the duo Razz & Biggy, songs on TJ Records' Summer Wave rhythm from Bugle, Ding Dong, Popcaan and Vybz Kartel are the big songs for the season. Beenie Man's Summer Is Here has also found favour with him. "Mi like the regular party summer songs. When mi listen to it, mi feel like mi deh pon the beach," he said. For selector Boom Boom, Popcaan has the best song. "Popcaan have the hottest summer song. Mi see everybody a tek on to it," he said. But Boom Boom believes songs from Mavado, Konshens and Cham are also having an impact. Also doing well, he says, is Vybz Kartel's Back To Life. |
