Local dancers Shady Squad recently drew attention from the international media for their new dancing video, when it was ripped from YouTube and premiered on international hip hop website Worldstarhiphop.com. The video displayed a dancehall choreography to Rihanna's single Where Have You Been. According to Shady Squad dancer Matthew Richards, there is an international demand for dancehall music. "There is a growing demand for dancehall internationally so we decided to do a good video to showcase our moves," he said. The video received 100,000 views in just two days of its upload on worldstarhiphop.com and an additional 40,000 views on the group's official YouTube page. Matthew believes this is testimony that the product is good. "We got over 100,000 views in two days and worldstarhiphop.com saw it and put it on their site, so to us that is a good sign," Matthew said. In the last interview with THE STAR, Shady Squad disclosed that the group was aiming to compete in the internationally acclaimed America Best Dance Crew competition. Matthew explained that the music video was done in an effort to make their dream of competing in the competition a reality. "Rihanna is a Caribbean artiste and the rhythm compliments dancehall because it has a steady bass line and her reach goes out to the international market and that is where we want to reach. So we are doing this in an effort to tap into that market," Matthew said. Shady Squad was also featured in Rihanna's single called Man Down, which was shot in Jamaica. However, their latest effort is yet to be recognised by the pop star from Barbados. "People have been tweeting the video to Rihanna, but we haven't been contacted by her people, but I am guessing that she will see it in a matter of time so more good will come out of the video," he continued. "We have new dances called Watch Yu Step and Punch Out. we are currently organising a tour for the upcoming Olympics with some companies. Other than that, our focus is international so we want sponsorship for us to be a part of America's Best Dance Crew," Matthew concluded.
