Two women who came to blows at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine after they met up while visiting a policeman, who was a patient, were sentenced in court yesterday.

The women, both of Spanish Town, St Catherine, were fined $5,000 or 10 days' hard labour for disorderly conduct when they appeared in court.

There was suppressed laughter when the women appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green to explain the circumstances surrounding their encounter.

"Kindly tell me what happened why you are here today, as the court is yet to be made fully aware," said RM Dunbar-Green.

"Well ma'am mi go to the hospital to visit my boyfriend, when she came there and disrespect mi. That is where the fight start," one of the women responded.

After hearing that it was a cross case, the other woman was ordered inside the prisoner's dock and there was more laughter in court.

"She just come inside and see me beside mi babyfather and sey, 'John Crow, what yu a do yah' and wi started there," the other woman said.

The women were first told that their action could not have been appreciated by the man they were visiting before the fines were imposed.

The court heard that on May 24, both women went to visit the injured policeman on ward four at the hospital. The women after seeing each other were said to have began arguing before blows were thrown.

The police were called in and both were charged with disorderly conduct.
