Man sentenced for assault

A man who assaulted a female after she spurned his advances, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Richard Jackson, of a Corporate Area address, pleaded guilty to the charges of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard that, on the day of the incident, Jackson approached the 17-year-old female complainant who was on her way to a shop. Jackson reportedly grabbed her from behind, spun her around and held on to her hand. It is further revealed that Jackson was advancing sexual favours to the young complainant. During the scuffle, Jackson, it was said, tore off the female's fingernail.

different version

On the other hand, Jackson told Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey a different version of what took place. Jackson said he merely told the complainant 'good morning' when his hand caught her and her fingernail came off.

However, the senior RM did not believe Jackson and told him instead that she believed he had been advancing certain sexual favours towards the complainant. He was later remanded.
