Wallace seeking to steer Volvo to promotion

Ryon Jones, Staff Reporter

Dale Wallace is hoping his experience can help Eastern Confederation champions Volvo gain promotion to next season's premier league.

Wallace earned his team their second point of the 2012 Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Confederation play-off, after scoring the game's opener in the ninth minute, as they played to a 1-1 draw with Cavalier yesterday at Collie Smith Drive.

"I am experienced and I understand everything, so before games I have a little talk with my team on the field and let them understand what we are out here to do," Wallace told Star Sports following yesterday's game. So I am here to guide them and encourage them," he added.

Richard Williams netted Cavalier's equaliser in the 41st minute to ensure they stay out in front in the four-team battle for a spot in next season's national premier league.

over compromised

There seems to have been some element of fortune associated with Wallace's goal, as he appeared to be attempting a cross from the left side of the field when the ball eluded Cavalier's custodian David Mitchell and lodged in the corner of the net, as he had over compromised for the cross.

"I have seen Cavalier's keeper before and I know that he loves running out for squares, so I just tried a shot at the goal; it was actually a shot," the 30-year-old Wallace said.

Despite having only amassed two points from three games, Wallace, who previously played in the national premier league with St Georges and Star Cosmos, is confident that they will emerge as one of the top two teams, hence gaining promotion.

"We are very confident, because we are here to play. We are playing the football, but the problem is that we are not finishing," Wallace said.

"I am looking forward to making it back to the premier league and I won't go back down," he added.
