Spalding High School pleased with Labour Day efforts
GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer Students and teachers at the Spalding High School in Clarendon put work into Labour Day recently while giving themselves a more comfortable road on which to drive to that institution. The road which leads to the school and which was in a deplorable condition, was given a well-needed repair with cement, marl and stone by past and present students, taxi operators, teachers and other categories of staff members. Teachers, while singing the praises of especially past students, acknowledged that their effort in assisting with the repair of the road to their alma mater is a testament to the fact that the institution did something for them. Past student Anthony Henry acknowledged that their return to the school meant a lot to him and his colleagues, as they all believe that students should give back to their alma mater. "This is where I got the best five years of my training. It was through the efforts of my teachers why I am able to read and write and have now reached a level in my life where I can satisfactorily say that I am now able to make a contribution to the society; and so our coming back to work today is just a small gesture to say thanks to all my teachers," said Henry. The Labour Day workers spent almost the entire day doing major patching work along the roadway, and repaired serious waterways created by heavy rains. The road, which was a threat to the life of hundreds of students and their teachers, was also an eyesore and was a pain for staff members especially who drive to and fro. Following its repair, school administrators are asking those using it to take extreme care. Taxi operators are being called upon to avoid excessive speeding so that students, teachers and others will not be exposed to danger. |
