KSAFA outfit Cavalier could make another significant step towards premier league qualification when they host Volvo FC at Collie Smith Drive tomorrow starting at 3:30 p.m.

Cavalier jumped to the top of the four-team Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Confederation play-offs on six points following their 2-0 win over Savannah FC last Wednesday.

Cavalier are three points ahead of Savannah of Westmoreland, the western champions, and five ahead of both New Green of Manchester and Volvo of St Ann, on one point each.

With two of the six games already completed, another home win for Cavalier against bottom-place Volvo, the South Central champions, will push the KSAFA team to nine points and well on their way to the Red Stripe Premier League.

top-flight football

The David-Laylor-coached aggregation have being trying to qualify for the top flight for the past three seasons, coming close on two occasions and in their third-consecutive attempt are well fancied to make a return to top-flight football since 1995.

The likes of captain Michael Stone, Troyland Williams, Damion Jackson, Norman Bailey, Dellion Wilson, Richard Williams, Loxley Thompson, Jeffrey Grant, Geovannie Samuda and Nigel Reid must be feeling like Premier League players.

But they cannot be complacent and must be focused or they could end up like Santos a few seasons ago that looked certain to be promoted but are now battling to survive in the Super League.

Volvo, who hold the hopes of St Ann, and the Eastern Confederation have garnered just one point from two games and will be hunting a crucial win to revive their promotion ambitions and cannot be taken lightly.

In the other matchup, second-place Savannah, trying to rebound from the loss to Cavalier, host New Green at Frome Sports Club.

New Green, in third place on one point, are a dangerous hard-running team and despite playing away, could upset Savannah and jump into second spot.

New Green lost 1-0 to Cavalier and drew 0-0 with Volvo and will be hunting their first win of the campaign.

The parish of Manchester has not seen Premier League football since 1998 when Mile Gully participated and the onus is on New Green to bring back those days.

Meanwhile, Savannah are trying to replace Reno FC as the Westmoreland representative, but based on their match against Cavalier last Wednesday, their lack of fitness will prove critical in the Premier League push.
