The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has earmarked the communities of Arnett Gardens in Kingston, as well as Flanker and Providence in Montego Bay, St James, to be next in line for the implementation of its anti-theft network - the Residential Advanced Metering Infrastructure (RAMI) system. A release from the utility company said the transition would take place on May 30. The areas of Arnett Gardens to be included in this exercise are Mexico, Texas, Brooklyn, Havana, Zimbabwe, Pegasus, Top Jungle, Avon Park, and Angola. new system The release said the company has been in the process of installing the new system in communities in Kingston and Montego Bay since early last year, and has been working with community members to prepare for regularisation of service. This has included offering house-wiring assistance loans and establishing temporary offices in the communities to help resolve any outstanding matters. "JPS is strongly urging residents of Arnett Gardens, Flanker and Providence, who have not yet done so, to sign contracts for service or risk being without power when JPS begins to cut over to the new system," the release said. This year, the JPS has committed US$30 million - covering capital investments and operational expenses - to the fight against electricity theft. |
