Four to answer to indecent conduct

Gareth Davis Sr, STAR Writer
Port Antonio:

Four men, who pleaded not guilty to resisting arrest and indecent conduct, had their bail extended and are to return to the Port Antonio Resident Magistrate's Court on July 26 to answer to the charges.

Kevin Patterson, Dwayne Evans, Sheldon White, and Deon McFarlane, were charged by the Portland police on April 22 after it was reported that they were at a bar drinking and allegedly used indecent language to a policeman, who had approached them about their use of foul language and rudeness.

refused to cooperate

The prosecution claimed the men, who were in court on Tuesday, were intoxicated, refused to cooperate with the police, and also resisted arrest. It is also claimed that their behaviour forced the policeman to call for backup.

But in their defence, Evans and McFarlane told the court that the policeman approached them menacingly, and that at no time were they disrespectful to him.

They claim they were roughed up and violated by the policeman, who also hit them in the chest, while they were in custody.

In the end, RM Marjorie Moisten instructed the four men to return to court in July, when the case will be mentioned.
