Mayor of Portmore focuses on cleaning entrances into the municipality
Mayor of Portmore George Lee said the main focus of his council this Labour Day is to 'clean up all the entrances leading into the municipality'. "We will be clearing debris and bushes at the road that carries motorists to the toll road and the road that leads to the Mandela Highway to give those places a brand-new look," Mayor Lee said during a recent interview. He encouraged community leaders to register their projects with the Portmore Municipal Council and insisted that they join the vision, which is to make Portmore a cleaner place in which to live. He added: "A number of projects have been registered and we are expecting people to do beautification projects in their communities such as planting of trees and painting of kerb walls, community centres, and schools." The mayor also disclosed: "The tent that was placed across from the 100-man (Portmore) police station when I was mayor a couple of years back is back now, and residents from the various communities that have Labour Day projects can access a variety of trees, garbage bags, and other items." Meanwhile, the Ken's Wildflower Community Sports Club will, on Labour Day, focus on clearing debris and bushes from the open land facing the Bridgeport community. This project is part of the club's outreach programme. |
