Cop held on suspicion of corruption

The Anti-Corruption branch (ACB) has taken a policeman into custody on suspicion of corruption.

Information reaching the Star is that the policeman, who is stationed in the St Catherine North division, was held on Wednesday.

He was, allegedly, involved in an illegal transaction with a man.

The ACB was informed of the problem and an undercover operation was set up. It was revealed that the policeman was reportedly caught collecting $15,000 from the complainant in Bynloss district.

He was at a location when the incident occurred.

It is said that the complainant marked the notes and passed them to him.

Detectives who were in the area swooped down and held him.

He was subsequently taken to the Spanish Town Police station where he has been placed in custody.

His name has been withheld pending further investigations.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Felice said that the ACB would be going all out against corruption.
