Caribbean Airlines has shifted into the fast lane as they have jumped on board as sponsors for the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Invasion race meet. This is the second race meet of the 2012 season and will begin on May 26.

The announcement was made yesterday at the launch of the event , at the Sports Development Foundation office in Kingston by Captain Marck Carey, president of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club.

"The main reason we decided to come on board is because the event embodies everything that we promote, which is the freedom of movement and bringing elements of each other's culture and competitiveness to the different Caribbean territories," Colwyn Henton, marketing coordinator at Caribbean Airlines said.

Caribbean Airlines will be providing free transportation for the drivers coming from the Caribbean islands. Henton also noted that they are currently working on developing discounts for people who intend on travelling to watch the event.

Carey also announced that seven drivers from Guyana, Barbados, and newcomers Cayman Islands will be participating in this race meet along with the Jamaican drivers.

"Both of the Cayman drivers have raced here before and one of them, Andy Bodden, has won the group two award before, he is very exciting, fast and has upgraded his car now to a fully prepared evolution, which has put him in group four. If he drives the way he does in group two then it will be very exciting and interesting to see how he fits in with our top guys," Carey added.

As for the other racers, Carey has highlighted two drivers he expects to give the Jamaican top drivers tough competition. Andrew King from Guyana, who has raced in Jamaica several times before, is very experienced with his Mazda Rx7 and Stuart Williams, the current track record holder in Barbados.

"As for the cars, they are currently on the wharf and will be transported to the track by Tuesday. The drivers and riders are flying in on Wednesday and I'm sure they will want to start practising as soon as they get to the track. I expect it to be fierce particularly in group two because it is our hottest category now. I see most of the action coming from that because the cars and drivers are closely matched." Carey said.
