All Correct hunts second lottery jackpot

Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

CHAMPION trainer Wayne DaCosta's ALL CORRECT goes after a second lottery jackpot tomorrow following his victory in December's Supreme Ventures Limited Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes.

However, he will have to prove just how tough he is, whether he can land the 10-furlong $3.3m Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup with top weight of 57.0 kilos.

Runner-up to UNCLE DONNY in the 2000 Guineas on April 9, ALL CORRECT, by virtue of winning December's Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, a graded race, is at the top of the scale in the Lotto Classic Governor's Cup.

A minimum of 11lb separates ALL CORRECT from his nearest rivals in the scale. However, his main dangers, the fillies PHILISTIA and STAR FLYER, are even lighter at 50.0 kilos apiece, receiving a whopping 16lb each from the gelding, who is yet to race in excess of a mile.

In addition to having the scale in their favour, PHILISTIA and STAR FLYER are quicker than the gelding, and have both tested 10 furlongs, finishing second and third, respectively, in the April 28 Jamaica Oaks won by EXOTIC GOLD, ALL CORRECT's stablemate.

deck stacked

With the deck stacked against him, ALL CORRECT will need help to keep the light fillies honest. This could come from another filly, his stablemate ANTOINETTE, who did the job in the Jamaica Oaks for EXOTIC GOLD.

ANTOINETTE led the Oaks field for seven furlongs in splits of 51.0 and 1:14.0 before EXOTIC GOLD took over the running and held off PHILISTIA's challenge in the stretch run.

Drawn perfectly at post-position one, ANTOINETTE should be calling the tune past the clubhouse turn and down the backstretch where STAR FLYER and the colt PRINCE ANDREW should be hounding her.

Shane Ellis replaces stable jockey Dane Nelson who was aboard ALL CORRECT in the 2000 Guineas loss to UNCLE DONNY. The gelding's connections were obviously happy with how Ellis had ridden ALL CORRECT in the Supreme Ventures Limited Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes and are hoping he pulls it off again.

riding style

In fact, they could be right because Ellis' patient riding style certainly suits how the race should be run - a warm pace upfront with the lighter horses all trying to get first run at a distance over which most are untested.

Ellis, however, can't afford to lag too far behind with the big weight, nor can he get involved in the pace too early with 57.0 kilos.

The fillies aside, the gelding AVENTURA is also a dangerous contender. He won at nine furlongs and 25 yards on April 25, and was third behind UNCLE DONNY and ALL CORRECT, sitting level at 57.0 kilos in the 2000 Guineas.

The Gresford Smith-trained runner has 52.0 kilos, getting 11lb from ALL CORRECT, and is a tempting bet.

However, DaCosta's runner has been tuned with the Lotto Classic Governor's Cup in mind since his 2000 Guineas loss. He reports fresher than AVENTURA and has posted back-to-back bullet workouts over seven furlongs, stepped up to 1:29.1 last Saturday morning.

Ellis needs only to get a good run to the clubhouse turn, stay out of trouble down the backstretch and gauge the pace before easing down into contention.
