A woman who used a bottle to hit her lover's wife in the head has been spared from a fine or prison term after she pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding.

Angella Carey, 28, of Whithorn, Westmoreland, was given a six-month suspended sentence.

Allegations outlined in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court were that on June 10, last year, the wife went to her house at Cornwall Courts, Montego Bay, and saw Carey lying in the sofa.

The women had an argument and the wife held a candle holder as if she was going to hit Carey. The husband got involved and held his wife and it was then that Carey used the bottle to inflict the wound to her head.

The matter was reported to the Mount Salem police, and Carey was pointed out to the police some two weeks later on St James Street in Montego Bay. When cautioned, she said the wife no longer lived at the house and she had been involved in a relationship with the husband for two years.

Resident Magistrate Sheron Barnes warned Carey that if she were convicted of any offence before the suspended sentence expired, she would have to serve the six months' imprisonment.
