The Portland police on Wednesday destroyed one acre of fully grown ganja plants at Calda, Passley Gardens, during a special operation.

Deputy Superintendent Dalton Wright told The weekend Star that the police were acting on intelligence in discovering the one acre of ganja plants and 200 seedlings, shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

"Three men are now in custody," said Wright. "The police also recovered a number of technological equipment including laptops and wireless routers. We are appealing to persons in this and other neighbouring parishes, who may have been robbed recently, to visit the Port Antonio Police Station with documents to view these items to determine whether any belong to them."

Following the discovery of the fully grown ganja plants and seedlings, which were destroyed by chopping and burning, the police recovered five laptops, three DVD players, two cellphones, two wireless routers, a binocular, an electronic keyboard, CDs and DVDs in a hut in the bushes adjacent to the ganja field.

Just two days ago, the police also destroyed two acres of fully grown ganja at Hart Hill in Buff Bay.

Wright said the police took a small quantity of the ganja plants to the station as exhibits.

The three men found on the weed farm are expected to be charged before the end of the week.
